2013 was a landmark year for the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year as the show celebrated its 60th Anniversary. For six decades, households across the country have gathered together in an annual celebration of British sports stars and sporting moments that have inspired the nation.

To honour this milestone, innovision was asked by the BBC to design a truly memorable set – like no other from the show’s longstanding history. And that’s exactly what we did…

Having worked with the BBC for many years previous, successfully delivering all event production elements of the SPOTY show and hospitality environments in both 2009 and 2010, we brought the benefit of genuine insight and understanding to the project and produced a spectacular show which exuded drama, excellence, excitement, emotion, and so much more.

Broadcast live from a packed First Direct Arena in Leeds, the show drew 8.6 million television viewers, who all tuned in to see Andy Murray take home the coveted trophy and join the prestigious roll of honour as Sports Personality of the Year.

SPOTY 2013 also generated significant attention across social media. Between the hours of 7:40pm and 10:00pm, the spectacular show drew a total of 220,988 tweets, averaging at 1,065 tweets per minute (tpm). This figure peaked at 9,416 tpm when Andy Murray was crowned victor as ultimate Sports Personality of the Year.
